Hey ScribeSquad, how is it going? Well I am good! Thanks for asking đ. So! I am a firm believer in celebrating small victories and you should be too! I get the fact that we all have big goals, however, we tend to forget that the little things are what sum up to make the big ones.
When I think of celebrating small victories, I like to think of myself as the small wins; how would you feel if you are undermined because you are âtoo smallâ to be consequential when in fact you are the building block that makes the house?
Little drops of water make the mighty ocean
I woke up this morning feeling extra excited, even though I slept late and barely got three hours of sleep. I had breakfast (which is rare for me) and before leaving the house I gave myself a pat on the back âyou go girl, you got up and kept moving when you could so easily stay in bedâ (trust me, that is something to celebrate in my books).
Today is the last day of yet another month and some of us might only register it as, âwell here comes March,â but you made it this far, despite the situations surrounding you! You get to see another day! Now that is a victory if I have ever seen one.
You might be wondering, what is so special about celebrating little victories besides the obvious stated above? I will tell you.
It gives you the drive to keep moving; looking back at how far you have come makes you want to keep going, it makes you feel âI might not be where I want to be, but I am not where I used to beâ. It reminds you that YOU CAN, because you have done these little things.
Also, when the big picture is out of focus and everything seems to be falling apart, or not working out; you have something to hold on to and say, âI did this so, I can do thatâ.
It makes you feel happy; I had a dance party this morning because, I had breakfast and washed the dishes immediately. To you, that might not be anything but, it made me happy knowing I wonât be coming back to a full sink and, I wonât feel miserable in class because I am hungry. And this will set the mood for my day!
It builds your confidence; you have climbed 100 stairs and you have 500 more to go! I mean that is just 5 more 100s right? Celebrating the little victories, acknowledging the small achievement boosts your confidence. It allows you say, âwell I just did 100 and if I apply the same principles, I can do the next 100â. It prevents you from dwelling on the fact that your ribs hurt! Your legs are burning, and you would rather be in bed.
The brain functions on reward systems! So, you need to give yourself some accolades. Make yourself feel good, Praise yourself, Appreciate yourself.
Celebrating your little victories and accomplishments, does not mean have a full blow party (which you can if you want *grin*). A simple âthank youâ to yourself, or a few kind words âyou are goodâ âyou did wellâ âwell done youâ âyay meâ goes a long way.
Sometimes I write notes of appreciation to myself as though it was for someone else.
