DON’T SETTLE | DEFEATIST MENTALITY

Hi guys, how you doing? I am fine thanks for asking…😁

Story Story…..

During the Christmas break my mum casually mentioned how I am very good at moving on to the next best thing, in her own terms, she said, “you need to learn to stay focused, you are very good at finding an alternative” and she left it at that. I sincerely felt attacked at that point, with defensive thoughts running through my mind; is that not a good skill to have? To see something won’t work and not waste your time, to be able to move on and off you go? Until it ‘clicked’.

While in the studio recently, I was trying to get an image, I knew what I wanted; I had it clear in my head. Started shooting, got halfway, and didn’t know how to get the little detail that would have made THE image and I got stuck. Guess what Rosemary did? She got up and gave up, and because I was “moving on to something else”, something “less complicated”; the next best thing, it didn’t feel like I was giving up, at least I was trying something else. Well, shocker, my mum pegged me right.

Before I continue, let me make it a clear point that being able to move on when something doesn’t work is not an issue, when used right it is an asset. However, moving on when you did not fully apply yourself and exhaust all options is such a dangerous trait, as you will continue to have half done mediocre results.

Being able to give a 100%, yet personally limiting yourself to produce 50% or just above average, where it is neither a fail, nor a pass is the worse thing you can do to yourself. All because of laziness and not believing in the value you hold. Do not get comfortable in the knowledge that you could possibly maybe actually do it, rather bask in the glory of having done it.

Anything is possible once you believe you are worthy of achieving it – Jason Pockrandt

Do not live a life of coincidences, and one hit wonders, be intentional and purposeful. Granted, some things do not go as planned, but make sure you value yourself enough to try again effectively and efficiently.

Do not settle for a destination that you do not want just because you think second best is just as good.

Respect yourself enough to be the best of you there is. There is an importance to your little acts no matter how tiny the ripple is. Never compare yourself to anyone by saying ‘well I am doing better than Mr. A so that works’ because although 0 is better than -1 no one wants 0.

Anyway, thank God for mothers, the goal from here on out is to exhaust all options effectively and efficiently before moving on. No room for mediocrity this year. Thanks Mama.

STAY SHINING LOVELIES.
