DEATH OF MY CONSCIENCE | SPOKEN WORD POETRY

DEATH OF MY CONSCIENCE is a poem I wrote to remind myself and others that when you continually ignore the alarms of your conscience, someday soon it might die off. Enjoy!

JUST SHUT UP!

Hey, hey hey, WAKE UP!!

HEY! Please wake up! Don’t go,

No, no, no, no, somebody do something,

Anybody, somebody,

Just wake up.

And so, I shed tears at your untimely demise,

My mind racing through thoughts of what could have been?

What could I have done differently?

Perhaps if I didn’t hush you so much,

Or maybe if I fed you the fruits of good and not evil?

I didn’t mean to end you,

It wasn’t my fault,

I just wanted to feel among,

I just wanted you to be quiet and not judge me so loudly,

Please wake up,

What can I possibly do without your little nags,

I feel empty.

I know what I said, but I didn’t mean it,

Come back, I promise to listen and obey,

To act on your little nudging at my humanity,

I don’t want to be a beast anymore,

I do not want to walk the street free of internal judgment,

To act with no moral compass as the lines between good and bad have been eradicated,

I promise to treat you better.

I guess I am too late

Because your headstone read;

Here lies the body of our dearest being, conscience. May it rest in eternal peace. Signed Body on behalf of soul and spirit.

Do not allow yourself to get too far gone, you end up killing your conscience. Let us listen to your conscience and let it lead you aright.

Have an amazing week ahead and see you on Thursday!

STAY SHINING GUYS!
