5 STEPS TO DEAL WITH OVERWHELM

DEALING WITH OVERWHELM

Hi ScribeSquad, How are we doing? So, it is a new month and I feel the need to share with you guys how I deal with feeling overwhelmed.

Recently, I felt so overwhelmed and just drained, because I had psyched myself out with how much stuff I had to get done in a short period of time. And guess what my response to this overwhelm was? I crashed, didn’t do a thing for somedays and I realized, listen you need to get up and deal with this issue before it becomes something else.

So here are the 5 steps I employed to get me up and running again

Watch my YouTube video on dealing with Overwhelm HERE

1.    Listen to music; We all have that song or artist whose songs get us moving, because of the beat or the lyrics. For me at this point anything with a danceable beat that makes you want to move your body works. So, find the one that works for you.

2.    Have a bath; For some reason, having a bath makes you feel good and fresh (obviously), and there is a sense of newness that comes with it (almost like it washes away some of the heaviness of overwhelm). So have a bath!

3.    Eat good meal; for the days I was feeling overwhelmed and down, I didn’t eat any substantial meal, I had junk, and some fruits (to make myself feel like I was doing well). However, when I had a proper meal, I was ready! I felt like I could take on the world. Having a good meal goes a long way in making you feel better.

4.    Clear up my surroundings; now, when your environment is clear, it calls unto you to work. Make sure your workspace or immediate surroundings are clear. This helps make your head feel lighter, imagine your head all fussy with ow much you need to get done and your room is also full, that is basically double wahala.

5.    Write out a to-do list; after all these, what I did next to ease the feeling of overwhelm was write a clear list of the things I needed to do immediately, that day and the next. And I arranged them in order from easy to more tasking, this way I build a momentum and am not frustrated to give up from the get-go.

With that being said, try to be proactive and not reactive, do not procrastinate because this just makes everything look harder at the last minute. Try not to psych yourself out so much, do not try multitasking, finish one thing completely before you move to the next (I used to try multitasking and then end up with 20 incomplete things.)

I hope this helps.
